Overview
"Bush (Strong Golden Ale, 33cl, 12.0%abv)
The strongest of the Belgian beers. A true strong ale, copper coloured, malty, and nicely dry. Matured for at least 3 months, this is a superb quality beer, and really luscious.
Brigand (Strong Speciality Ale, 33cl, 9.0%abv)
A strong and rich beer from the van Honsebrouck brewery. A ruddy brown ale, with malty aroma and a sweetish palate.
Augustijn Grand Cru (33cl 9.0%abv)
Wonderful quality 'grand cru' version of the standard Augustijn, with a point more alcohol, and slightly richer in the body and the finish
Chimay Blue (Trappist Ale, 33cl, 9%abv)
Another Trappist beer, from the Abbaye de Notre Dame de Scourmant. Chimay is now an international brand, available across the world, and Chimay Blue is the strongest of the 3 main Chimay beers. Can be stored for many years, and goes well with cheese. Serve at room temperature.
Delirium Tremens (Strong Golden Ale, 33cl 9%abv)
A prime example of a strong Belgian golden ale, DT is a superb beer, which must be drunk chilled to really appreciate its full flavour. Big frothy head, and strong aroma, it is best in a rounded goblet style glass that captures it aroma, an allows you to savour the total effect.
Gales Prize Old Ale (Strong English Ale, 27.5cl, 9.0%abv)
Dark old English strong ale, limited production so quite rare
Gordon's Finest Gold (Strong Golden Ale, 33cl, 10.0% abv)
Very strong golden ale. Bitter and malty.
Grimbergen Tripel (Abbey Ale, 33cl, 9.0% abv)
Brewed by Maes for the Abbey. Pale but strong, fruity and dry.
Gulden Draak (Strong Dark Ale, 33cl, 10.5% abv)
Flagship brew of the famous Van Steenbergen brewery. Luciously smooth and dangerously easy to drink. It succeeds in balancing malt sweetness with mellow hoppiness.
Kasteel Dunkel (Strong Dark Ale, 33cl, 11.0% abv)
A very strong and rich beer from the same brewery that produces Brigand. A deep dark ale, with very malty aroma and a sweetish palate. Definitely an after dinner drink!
La Divine (Strong Speciality Ale, 33cl, 9.5% abv)
A copper coloured ale, quite malty yet bitter. Has a fruity aroma and flavour with a sharp alcohol bite. From the craft brewer Brasserie de Silly.
La Guillotine (Strong Golden Ale, 33cl, 9.0% abv)
An intriguing spicy strong amber ale. In its own unique painted bottle, this is a very strong potent ale. Bottle conditioned with some sediment.
Maredsous 10 (Abbey Ale, 33cl, 10.0% abv)
At 10% abv, this is one of the strongest Belgian Abbey beers. A luscious amber coloured soft creamy ale with a well rounded body and good balance of malts and fruit. Has a long warming finish. A great after dinner drink.
Piraat (Pilsner, 33cl, 10.5% abv)
A magnificent Belgian monster. A fabulous smooth taste of toffee and bitterness. This wickedly rich and rounded brew packs a mighty punch.
St. Bernardus ABT (Abbey Ale, 33cl, 10.0% abv)
Very full bodied, creamy, soft and sweet and strong. Brewed at the St. Bernard brewery in Watou, Belgium, for the Abbey of St Sixtus in Westvleteren.This is a real knock-out ale at 10%!
Westmalle Tripel (Trappist Ale, 25cl, 9.0% abv)
Described by Michael Jackson in his book on world beers, as ""one of the worlds great beers"", this is a strong pale beer from the Trappist monastery of Abdij der Trappisten near Antwerp. Quite strong, it can be served chilled or at room temperature. "
